In the ‘80s, Vicki focused the most on her career and school. She loved driving a truck for Safeway – the open roads, the beautiful Arizona scenery and the freedom to work independently. She easily made friends everywhere she went, and took the southern routes whenever possible in order to speak Spanish with her colleagues. She also developed a love of photography at this time and took several classes to develop her skills. During the ‘80s, she also met and married Jim, a fellow driver. Together they bought and ran their own truck and trailer, and Vicki managed the leasing part of the business and all the paperwork. She also continued taking classes during this time, working toward her college degree. Her marriage with Jim ended in the early ‘90s, yet they remained very close friends throughout the rest of her life. In 1992, Vicki met Joan and decided to change her life completely.
